Because it is important for everyone to feel fulfilled in their work and in their lives, the Ortec Group is committed every day to its employees through a global solidarity approach: “ORTEC, LIFE TOGETHER” This enables the women and men at Ortec to be united around the same values: sharing and listening, tolerance and respect, solidarity and mutual support.
The Ortec Group, in collaboration with its partners, offers all its employees financial assistance and services to facilitate their access to housing.
Any employee facing challenges can contact the Ortec Group’s social worker, who will listen, inform, advise and support them on a variety of issues.
The Ortec Group favors the integration, recruitment and continued employment of people with disabilities, as well as strengthening partnerships with specialized institutions and raising employees’ awareness of disability issues.
The values intrinsic to the Ortec Group lead it to act in support of employees. O’Solidaire, the solidarity fund, which is financed by a portion of the Group’s profits, was created to help employees who are most in need and prevent them from falling into financial hardship.
Several years ago, the Ortec Group created “Mission Handicap”, one of the prerogatives of which focuses on the inclusion of people with disabilities in the workplace. The initiatives introduced concern recruitment, the strengthening of partnerships with specialized institutions, raising the awareness of employees to the issue of disability in the workplace and providing support for the employee.
« Acting for the employment of disabled workers is an opportunity to open up to new profiles and not just a way to meet the employment obligation. »
Raising awareness is a fundamental aspect of the Ortec Group’s policy to promote the inclusion of disabled workers in the company.
Raising awareness means informing, involving and getting everyone to work together to create the conditions that will enable people with disabilities to join our teams, contribute their know-how and develop their skills.
A guide for better communication on disabilities in the workplace
In order to raise awareness of these issues among employees, particularly managers, Mission Handicap has published a guide designed to answer questions about the day-to-day management of disabilities. The document aims to dispel stereotypes and provide practical explanations regarding the recognition of disabled worker status, integration and workplace adaptations. The solution lies in more extensive communication and information.
Through its yearly participation in the European Week for the Employment of People with Disabilities, the Ortec Group has chosen to promote awareness, discussion and sharing with all its employees on the issue of the inclusion of people with disabilities in the workplace. Talks, exhibitions, debates and solidarity actions are organized to bring together as many people as possible around this major issue in terms of integration policy and equality. The SEEPH also represents an effective opportunity to raise awareness on the issue of recruiting candidates with disabilities.
Thanks to its Mission Handicap, the Ortec Group is fully committed throughout the year in favor of the employment of people with disabilities. Practical actions and assistance are deployed to integrate and maintain disabled people in employment, but also to raise awareness of disability in the workplace and in everyday life: job forums, conferences, solidarity runs and walks, workshops, meetings, support, workstation adjustments, etc.
Ortec has a strong corporate culture. But more than that, it has a group spirit, a sense of companionship, a heightened sense of the collective driven by a genuine compassionate energy. We believe that united, we can go faster and further, and that in all circumstances, solidarity is the key to the relationship between the company and its employees, between the employees themselves, and between Ortec and the world in which the company operates.
André Einaudi, Chairman-Managing Director of the Ortec Group
to gain a better understanding
In association with the ARPEJEH (an association working to help young and disabled students achieve their goals), the Ortec Group invited its employees to accompany – by way of coaching – young people with disabilities in their choice of professional orientation. Reservations, lack of experience, a need for advice… For these young people, making choices and planning their professional future can feel daunting. The issue is even more acute for people with disabilities. The partnership between Ortec and ARPEJEH actively contributes to addressing the challenges of the integration of disabilities in the professional environment.
Group employees got involved in this project by coaching a young disabled person on the choice of their study path, with a resume that matched the position and career of the accompanying Ortec employee.
The “Ortec coaches” shared their experience and knowledge in order to guide and discuss potential professions, the career path, company life, etc.
On February 19, 2021, at its head offices in Aix-en-Provence, the Ortec Group welcomed Sophie Cluzel, Secretary of State to the Prime Minister for disabled people. Sophie Cluzel brought together several economic players in the PACA region as part of the France Relance plan and actions taken to promote the employment of people with disabilities. Ortec presented, for its part, the key elements of its policy in this area and the actions of the Mission Handicap.
Coordinated in association with AGEFIPH (a French organization to promote the employment of disabled people), a gathering of disability advisors was held at the Ortec Group headquarters. The aim was to facilitate the sharing of information and experiences, to identify useful contacts, to implement joint inclusion projects, but also to offer tools for raising awareness on disability in the workplace. Internal communication emerged as a key component. A first step for strengthening unity!
Every year, Ortec Group teams rally together to participate in the Algernon Race. This challenge, the largest national event for disabled sports, brings together able-bodied and disabled people in a friendly atmosphere to defend the values of sharing and solidarity. Created in 1984, the Algernon Race is a free-pace race that allows people with disabilities to take part in a truly inclusive experience.
At the invitation of the EDF Women’s Energy Network and the Bugey Nuclear Power Plant, six Ortec employees supported the “Courir pour elles” association along a 10-kilometer (6-mile) route around the plant. The association contributes to the fight against gynecologic cancers through prevention and the improvement of the quality of life of female patients.
The teams from Friedlander Amiens and their families organized their own challenge with a sponsored 120-kilometer (75-mile) bike relay in teams and collected donations for the fight against cancer. The total distance traveled in just 31 days was equivalent to a tour of the world. “Through this initiative, I intend to support those fighting against disease. This event is an opportunity for us to fight back in a substantial way!” says Abdel, organizer of this sporting and solidarity event in support of people suffering from cancer.
Ortec is a partner of the Les Bacchantes race in Aix-en-Provence. Every year, a number of employees take part in this 8-kilometer (5-mile) race in the historic center of Aix to raise funds for the fight against prostate cancer. Why the slogan “mustachioed run against prostate cancer”? Participants – men and women – are invited to wear a mustache (natural, glued or drawn on) in order to raise awareness and help the fight against prostate cancer which affects 50,000 men and causes 8,000 deaths every year.
Which may or may not be visible. Heavy or slight. It is from birth, or emerges one day following an accident, or simply without warning. And when it happens, it changes a whole life.
This is the main theme of the traveling exhibition produced in 2016 by the Ortec Group, based on portraits of its employees with disabilities. These women and men have chosen to share their stories through moving testimonies, the stories of their lives with and despite disability.
This edition of the SEEPH was an opportunity for the Ortec Group to involve the children of its employees to talk about invisible disabilities based on two themes: “What is an invisible disability?” and “Is it possible to have a disability without a wheelchair?”
Geared towards children under 10 years old and 10-15-year-olds, this art-based project aimed to raise awareness of invisible disabilities among the younger generation. All techniques were accepted: pencils, felt pens, paints, pastels… The children demonstrated their imagination and talent. All the drawings, from the 4 corners of France, were displayed during the Group’s annual convention. Mathis (under 10 years) Maxim, Yassine and Juliette (10-15 years) were honored by the jury, but all the participants were praised for having demonstrated that disability is not a obstacle for the younger generation, who have proven to be very open-minded.
Roger Deda has two passions: art and sport This painter from Madagascar is also a wheelchair basketball player, former captain of the French wheelchair basketball team with whom he was vice-world champion in 2010. During the 2014 edition of the SEEPH, Roger Deda was invited to the Ortec Group head offices in Aix-en-Provence to perform a live artwork: a life-size portrait. A look back at an extraordinary performance…
It is 11 AM, Roger Deda attaches a large sheet of paper to the wall and meticulously prepares his tools: charcoal and graphite. He is ready. Before our eyes, throughout the day, he shades in the nuances of gray, he accentuates the lines … of an icon of basketball, Michael Jordan.
As the painting takes shape, employees pass by, stop, look, and ask questions. All remain in awe of the work that is unfolding. Once the portrait is finished, the artist talks with the employees in a convivial atmosphere. He tells the story of his sporting adventures, evokes his incredible energy which enables him to combine his two passions. He reveals his artistic inspirations and his projects. Finally, he gives us his own definition of disability which, according to him, “does not exist.” There are only disabling situations that need to be faced.
A beautiful testimony that raises questions, a fine performance that alters our perception of disability.
For many years, the Ortec Group has regularly called upon the protected and adapted sector to accomplish various missions. To the extent that we have now forged very strong ties with structures that provide assistance for disabled people through employment (ESAT) and adapted companies (EA), which have become genuine partners. Because, for the Group, “Ortec, Life Together” is not just a slogan, but real actions that are expressed every day through mutual trust.
For instance, at the 19th edition of the SEEPH in 2015, the Ortec Group revisited some of its initiatives implemented throughout the year to promote the employment of people with disabilities and maintaining their employment.
With nearly 40 partner institutions throughout France, Ortec actively contributes to maintaining the employment of disabled people. Reliable and competent, these institutions support the Group in various activities such as:
To illustrate the close ties between Ortec and these institutions, an initiative was launched with the COOPSOC (an association for social cooperation) to reward an ESAT and its business project, via an inter-establishment contest. The ESAT of Les Pins in Marseille won the first contest in 2014.
At the initiative of COOPSOC, the trainees of the ESAT Les Étangs, who carry out, among other things, vehicle cleaning services, followed a training course in polishing and buffing, entirely financed by the Ortec Group. Objective: to develop skills and broaden the ESAT’s range of services. A look back at the graduation ceremony, held at the Ortec Industrie branch in Fos-sur-Mer as part of the SEEPH 2014.
The ESAT Les Étangs in Port-de-Bouc and Ortec have been partners for several years, providing vehicle cleaning services for the Ortec Industrie branches in Fos-sur-Mer and Martigues as well as for the head offices in Aix-en-Provence. These services are intended for both company and employee vehicles and include full cleaning and fluid controls.
In order to broaden the range of services offered by the ESAT and to enable it to develop its skills, COOPSOC, sought to train trainees in manual and mechanical polishing and buffing. The Ortec Group immediately endorsed the initiative by becoming a partner in the project and fully funding the entire training course. A total of six trainees and their workshop instructor participated in the five-day course provided by Lav’Sans Eau.
At the end of the training, General Management, the Human Resources department and the Ortec Industrie teams gathered at the Fos-sur-Mer branch to discover the new skills acquired by the trainees and to present them with an end-of-training certificate.
For the occasion, the trainees donned their working gear and performed a manual polishing demonstration.
More than a technical demonstration, the ESAT trainees, above all, showed that they enjoyed their work, that they performed it with serious commitment and that they acted as a team, in an atmosphere of mutual aid and solidarity.
To congratulate them and encourage them to continue their projects, Ortec’s management thanked all the teams supervising this workshop as well as the trainees who were very pleased with the training. After the presentation of the diplomas, conversations continued and some of the trainees told us that they were already thinking about their next project: a training course in mechanical car maintenance.
The ESAT Les Pins in Marseille won first prize in the inter-establishment contest “Projects in ESAT”, organized by COOPSOC at the initiative of the Ortec Group.
The first competition was held in November 2014, during the SEEPH week. The jury’s decision in favor of the ESAT Les Pins in Marseille was unanimous: everyone praised the relevance of the project and the efforts made in carrying it out. The ESAT Les Pins received a check for EUR 600.
The establishment, which provides laundry and ironing services, had expressed a need for equipment. The project of the ESAT Les Pins was to invest in a sewing machine with a view to:
This new machine especially enables the staff to perform delicate work requiring great concentration, while developing motor coordination.
In order to strengthen this approach, a new partnership has been formed in 2022 with AKTISEA, a firm specializing in disability in companies.
This partnership is motivated by the fact that AKTISEA’s approach – “Proving that disability and performance are reconcilable” – is totally in line with the mindset at Ortec and its “Life Together” initiative.
The Ortec Group has signed a company agreement with TH Conseil, a leading recruitment firm in the field of disability. This strategic decision allows an expert to be present in the agencies to ensure the liaison with disabled candidates for all the positions to be filled.
Two consultants in our agencies are dedicated to supporting managers with a very broad scope of actions:

Promoting the professional integration of people with disabilities also means building tailor-made learning programs to develop their skills and contribute to their employability.
This approach is shared and realized through partnerships with specialized organizations to design work-study training programs adapted to their disability and the needs of industrial trades…
Here is a look back at our partnership with FIAM (inter-company training in vocational adaptation, intended for people with disabilities), through the testimonials of Ortec Group employees.
Why is sport an excellent way to raise employee awareness of disability issues?
Solidarity, mutual aid, collective adventure, team spirit, encounters, sharing, emotions, surpassing oneself…
While there are many ways to explain the power and human impact of these socially responsible events, it’s our employee-participants who talk about them best!

SEEPH 2022
During the 26th edition of the European Week for Employment of People with Disabilities, we presented the various steps of the inclusion policy for a disabled worker joining the Ortec Group: from recruitment to job adaptation, via the Mission Handicap schemes.
As part of their commitment to solidarity, Ortec staff linked the challenges of disability to those of sustainable development, through waste collection operations in their region. For each bag filled, the Ortec Group donated 10 euros to an association working on disability issues.

SEEPH 2021
For the 25th edition of the European Week for the Employment of People with Disabilities (SEEPH), Ortec invited all of its employees to participate in the initiatives proposed by the Group’s Mission Handicap from November 15 to 21, 2021.
The goal? To contribute to changing the perception of disability in companies and in society.
1 km = 1 euro… the operation was highly successful in 2021 among Ortec employees. All the more so since it has made it possible to support – to the tune of EUR 3,000 each – three associations: Dunes d’espoir, Education sportive du pays Glazik and the Joëlettes du bout du monde.
Employees responded to the call. During one week, by registering on the “Ortec SEEPH2021” group via the Strava application, each step taken was counted and converted into euros… a small step for each employee, but a big one for solidarity!
The associations we chose to support:
Dunes d’espoir
Established in 1998, the association enables young people with disabilities to surpass themselves in foot races, accompanied by runners. The commitment for “living well together” is achieved through an amazing vector: the joëlette. This inclusive activity allows children to share emotions and unforgettable memories and to ease the difficulties of their daily lives.
Les Joëlettes du bout du monde
Since 2011, the association is mobilized to help people with disabilities participate in road or cross-country running events. With the help of a Joëlette, runners accompany people who are ill or with reduced mobility to complete races that are too often inaccessible to them. This solidarity activity encourages plenty of interaction in a positive environment.
L’association d’éducation sportive du pays Glazik
Located in south Finistère, the association involves young people with mental or physical disabilities in the practice of sporting activities. The acquisition of a bike and the instruction for using it have contributed to renewing social ties and gaining autonomy.
SEEPH 2019
For the SEEPH 2019, the Ortec Group chose to highlight invisible disabilities.
Thanks to the strong mobilization of head office and branch employees throughout France, an operation to gather used office supplies and small metal parts made it possible to collect 1.2 metric tons of material for PRESEDYS, an association for the success in higher education of students with ‘DYS’ learning difficulties.
This collection benefited some 15 children who received a scanner that they could carry with them in class to enable them to listen to lessons without needing to take notes, and then scan the notes of a classmate.
The social network operation was also a success as the ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ of posts brought in EUR 3,000, which Ortec donated to the association. A great solidarity action!

SEEPH 2018
7,382 km (4,587 miles) covered for a good cause
Ortec’s Mission Handicap asked its employees to take part in its leading initiative “1 km = 1 euro”: for each kilometer walked, 1 euro was donated to the Handidream association, as part of the 2018 edition of the SEEPH. Aurélie, founder of Handidream, 32 years old, who had a leg amputated after a traffic accident, went on a tour of France on her horse to meet people with disabilities. Her objective? To enable everyone to find the strength to accept, to move forward and dare to face new challenges. Thanks to Ortec’s strong mobilization, 4,288 km of walking and running, 2,771 km of cycling and 823 km of other sports activities were completed, for a total of 7,382 kilometers resulting in EUR 7,382 raised and entirely donated to the association.
Created by Aurélie Brihmat in 2018 as part of the operation “Beyond disability for a tour of France on horseback”, Handidream’s vocation is to encourage discussion with disabled people and their families following an accident or illness, and above all to give them hope, by informing them of the various resources and help available to resume a normal life (adjustments to the home, administrative procedures, taking up sport again with a prosthesis, etc). So Aurélie left on horseback in 2019, accompanied by her father and her dog, for a tour of France connecting various rehabilitation centers in order to boost the morale of recently injured patients and especially to spread the “handismile” (keep on smiling and wanting to move forward in spite of disability).
SEEPH 2017
S-O-L-I-D-A-R-I-T-Y- throughout the 2017 edition of the SEEPH, this value made it possible to weave a common thread that punctuated the many events organized in all the Group’s branches, including the “1 sign = 1 euro” campaign.
As part of this unprecedented campaign, employees expressed their support for people with disabilities in sign language through 1,557 “solidarity” signs!
Thanks to everyone’s involvement and participation, in 2018, Mission Handicap was able to contribute EUR 1,557 to support the “Coquelicot” association.
Created in February 2004, this association in the Bouches-du-Rhône region aims to support parents who want to facilitate the academic, social and cultural integration of their children. The association’s mission is also to inform and create ties between families. Their project is to permanently ensure the presence of cued speech transliterators for children during the relevant moments in the classroom in order to make sure that they fully understand the lessons being taught. The inclusion of deaf or hearing-impaired children in a regular school environment gives them the opportunity to acquire oral and written language, the key to all knowledge and to their independence in society.
SEEPH 2016
On construction sites, in offices, on breaks or while working, in pairs, threes or teams… for the 2016 edition of the SEEPH, employees were invited to get together to take photos of themselves holding hands.
For each person in the photos, the Group agreed to donate 1 euro to a charity. So, for a week, everywhere in France, pieces of the chain were formed, ultimately giving rise to one great human chain of solidarity.
The project was also supported by people outside the Group, including a number of ESAT partners. A total of 1,281 people took part in this original project, which raised 1,281 euros, that were donated to the Frédéric Gaillanne Foundation, which was rapidly chosen.
Based in Vaucluse, the first guide dog training school in Europe provides support for blind and visually impaired children. It allows them to gain autonomy in their daily activities by providing them with companions who light their way, guide dogs, educated and trained by the school and its volunteers for almost 2 years. For the Ortec Group, particularly mindful of the needs of children with disabilities, the choice of the Frédéric Gaillanne Foundation was an obvious one.
On the occasion of its open house on September 24, 2017, the Frédéric Gaillanne Foundation extended an invitation to Ortec’s Mission Handicap team. In the presence of the school’s administration, its many volunteers and delegations, the children and the sponsors, Mission Handicap presented the principle of the human chain of solidarity, the values promoted by the Group as part of the “Ortec, Life Together” initiative and awarded the donation of EUR 1,281. A beautiful encounter, full of emotion, recognition and hope.
Watch a video of the story of this wonderful partnership with Reina, HR Manager of the Ortec Group, Valérie, a volunteer with the Frédéric Gaillanne Foundation and Clarisse, a young student who was given a guide dog by the school.
SEEPH 2014
During the 2014 edition of the SEEPH, Ortec Group employees expressed their commitment and support for this national campaign by taking part in a fun and unique activity. Throughout the week, they photographed themselves and posted and shared their selfies with the hashtag #ortecensemble #ortectogether on Facebook and Twitter.
For every selfie, the Ortec Group pledged to donate 1 euro to two IME (medical-educative institutes for disabled children): “Le Colombier” (La Roque d’Anthéron) and “Le Bois de Saint-Jean” (Gap). Both these associations received funding of EUR 700. They were then received at Ortec’s head offices to present and describe their respective educational projects.
of handicaps are related to debilitating illnesses
There are a large number of so-called debilitating illnesses that cause varying degrees of impairment and disability, which may be temporary, permanent or progressive. The World Health Organization defines chronic debilitating illness as “a health problem that requires ongoing care over several years”.
One in three people is likely to be affected by a disabling condition during their working life. 80% of them have a job at the time of diagnosis but either lose it within two years or are on medical leave.
Among the debilitating illnesses recognized since 2019 and which qualify for recognition of handicap (non-exhaustive list) (source MDPH (municipal center for disabled people)):
MSDs include conditions affecting the joints, muscles and tendons.
The parts of the body most frequently affected are the back, the upper limbs (wrist, shoulder, elbow) and lower limbs (knees). MSDs have multiple causes, but work activity frequently plays a role in their onset, perpetuation or aggravation.
Source: Ameli
Read the interview with Gilles, Safety Manager of the Ortec Group, on MSDs, their implications and their impact in the workplace.
MSDs alone account for 87% of occupational illnesses!
These represent 32% of disabling illnesses (90,000 per year), which is why Ortec is working alongside the ARC Foundation for cancer research.
In 2019, the Group focused its support on the AcSé-eSMART project, the only program of its kind in the world aimed at addressing treatment for pediatric cancers.
