New piping and assembly works at the Air Liquide site in Île-de-France
Friedlander Île-de-France carried out piping and assembly works on behalf of IGAS for Air Liquide’s gas cylinder filling plant in Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône.
More than 2 kilometers of piping and supports, 2,300 welds, 71 pieces of equipment, and 25 tons of supports were prefabricated before on-site assembly, following an engineering study phase supported by SOM, the Group’s engineering subsidiary. The Friedlander team also performed nitrogen testing and installed a storage tank.
“This project presented multiple quality challenges, particularly strict requirements for internal piping cleanliness,” explained Aurélien Boitrelle, Director of Friedlander Île-de-France. To meet these demands, the team took special measures: using brand-new stainless-steel tools, Teflon and special greases, and systematically sealing all lines.

Highly skilled and well-trained teams
The project was delivered under tight deadlines to ensure the smooth relocation of the plant from Blanc-Mesnil to Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône.
The teams installed vaporizers, pumps and supports before connecting the equipment and piping used to transport various gases (oxygen, argon, nitrogen, helium). Dedicated training sessions (including internal orbital chamfering machine, Swagelok, etc.) enabled the use of new welding equipment on-site, improving both productivity and service reliability.
Given the stringent quality requirements for this type of piping, the project demanded highly qualified teams, used to operate in challenging environments. Daily monitoring was implemented, including labeling and endoscopic camera inspection of welds. At peak, nearly 20 Friedlander professionals were engaged on the site, for a total of 10,000 work hours.
The mission, carried out at height using lifts and mobile scaffolding and under conditions of high co-activity, was successfully completed with a perfect safety record of “Zero accidents”.
