When SOM Engineering drives more sustainable maintenance: focus on the Atinkou power plant
To help the Atinkou power plant enhance operational performance, SOM developed an intelligent interface linking the site’s 3D model to the CMMS and document management system (DMS). A digital platform designed to streamline team workflows and secure operational performance.
Optimizing energy performance, strengthening operational reliability, and extending asset lifespan have become strategic priorities for industrial leaders advancing the energy transition. Working in close partnership with its clients, SOM, the engineering arm of the Ortec Group, deploys digital and operational solutions that streamline site operations while improving environmental performance. The combined-cycle gas power plant in Atinkou, Côte d’Ivoire, is a compelling example.
A project at the heart of energy production in West Africa
The Atinkou power plant, operated by CIPREL (Eranove Group), is now a key contributor to meeting growing electricity demand in Côte d’Ivoire. With high availability and performance requirements, the site sought to strengthen control over its maintenance operations to ensure reliable, sustainable and optimized energy production.
In this context, SOM provides an innovative digital solution that connects the site’s 3D digital model with the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) and the DMS (Document Management System) already used by the operator, bringing maintenance data, technical documentation, and operational insight into one integrated environment.

An intelligent interface for more efficient maintenance
More than just a BIM application, the project focuses on building an intelligent digital model designed around the real needs of field teams.
Drawing on three data sources (project documentation, CMMS data and the digital model), the system enables:
- instant access to work records, maintenance histories and analysis data;
- simplified access to spare parts and calculation data;
- intuitive 3D equipment visualization for quicker navigation;
- real-time field feedback from PCs or tablets to improve operational flow.
Serving as a direct link between the digital twin and maintenance tools, this interface gives operators a complete, continuously updated and well-structured view of their facility.
Collaborative design, usability and skills development
To guarantee full alignment between the solution and operational needs, SOM teams conducted on-site assessments to understand the requirements of each user group: technicians, engineers and maintenance leads.
The goal: to create an intuitive, flexible interface adapted to day-to-day field operations.
SOM is also supporting Atinkou in strengthening team expertise, ensuring users become fully independent in managing, developing and leveraging the digital model.
Partnering for smarter, higher-performance energy
Presented at BIM World, the project reflects a strong commitment to continuous improvement: Atinkou plans to gradually enhance the tool, while SOM continues to support its evolution by integrating new features and capabilities.
This partnership highlights the Ortec Group’s expertise in delivering practical, high-impact solutions that accelerate decarbonization, optimize industrial maintenance, and improve the energy performance of complex facilities.
A long-term commitment dedicated to operators, local communities, and a more sustainable energy future.
