The Ortec Group is training its environmental services teams to use a new mechanical pipe cleaning technique that complements existing high-pressure methods.

As an expert in environmental services and property maintenance, Ortec provides daily support to collective housing managers (social landlords, property management companies, etc.), offering sanitation services such as pipe cleaning (horizontal pipes, vertical columns, etc.) for both preventive and corrective needs. These services are designed to maintain a high level of service quality while minimizing downtime. The goal: to ensure the integrity of installations across all types of materials (cast iron / PVC / sandstone / concrete / steel).

How does mechanical pipe cleaning work?

Ortec is now deploying a new mechanical cleaning technique to complement its high-pressure services, eliminating the use of water for deposits that don’t require it.

Various high-speed rotary tools (brushes, metal and concrete grinders, milling heads, cleaning chains, claws, sanders) are used to eliminate a range of deposits (lime, urine calcite, scale, roots, grease, oils, concrete slurry) that may obstruct pipes.

This method allows Ortec to select the most appropriate solution (hydraulic or mechanical) for each situation, helping to avoid unexpected damage to installations (breakages, leaks, water damage, etc.). It is suitable for both property maintenance and industrial process networks.

Training sessions offered locally

Training modules, provided by Ortec’s internal training school O’Métiers, are available across the Group to ensure smooth adoption of the technique.

The one-day mechanical pipe cleaning training is open to all Environment agencies in the Group offering services on horizontal networks, ducts, and vertical columns. The program includes:

  • theoretical knowledge: Introduction to the activity and equipment, associated risks, site preparation and equipment setup, specifics of vertical and horizontal cleaning, and equipment maintenance.
  • practical application: Hands-on workshops and quizzes to validate acquired knowledge.

Responsible use of water resources

One of the advantages of mechanical cleaning is that it requires no water. Ortec’s environmental service agencies have integrated this approach into their services to help preserve resources. “We are implementing solutions that use less water while maintaining service quality. This involves rethinking our tools and equipment, in particular the settings for pressure, temperature and flow. The equipment preparation phase is particularly important in these cases,” explain the teams from the Global Services Division.
