The Technical Department of SOM, the Ortec Group’s engineering subsidiary, has set up a network of experts to capitalize on know-how, accelerate skills development and create new tools and methods.

Promoting the skills of our employees by creating a network of experts represents a significant asset for SOM. Ortec’s subsidiary is involved in numerous industrial projects in France: modernization of the existing nuclear plants, EPR2, reindustrialization, climate plan, etc. This initiative is in line with Ortec’s culture, based on operational excellence, quality and productivity of the services provided to our custumers.

The culture of “getting it right the first time”

“We operate in markets undergoing rapid transformation, and we carry out increasingly complex projects for increasingly demanding customers. Getting it right the first time is the key to operational efficiency, productivity and profitability” said André Einaudi, Chairman and CEO of the Ortec Group, at the launch of the network in September 2024.

The experts act as support for the teams, particularly for new employees, helping them adapt to the diverse sectors in which the Group operates, as well as to the methods and processes implemented. This network provides a practical solution to the scarcity of qualified resources, and the increasing volume of contracts, requiring new organizational structures.

Eleven trade groups

“We need to train and support a large number of new resources, develop tools and methods to enhance performance, capitalize on our expertise, and strengthen our business offer” added Technical Director Evelyne Bernard, for whom “this expert network will help us achieve these ambitious goals.”

Eleven trade groups have been set up within the network:

  • Construction sites
  • General installation
  • Civil engineering
  • Electrical, Instrumentation and Automation
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Project management
  • Industrial risk management
  • Operational safety
  • Maintenance studies
  • Site maintenance
  • Safety

By the end of 2024, all eleven trade groups will be meeting to establish action plans for 2025.

The experts will be actively involved in various domains:

  • Tools and methods (innovative solutions, methodological guides)
  • Skills and training (support for new recruits and skills upgrading, design and organization of in-house training courses)
  • Projects (bid preparation, technical and quality reviews, design reviews, on-site customer support)
  • Professions (trade groups, practical feedback, sales presentations)

The SOM network of experts gathered at the Ortec Group headquarters for the launch of this operational excellence program.
