M Group and ORTEC Group announce the formation of FERMI. The company will unite the strengths of both groups to contribute to the construction of new EPR2 nuclear power plants and to meet the challenges of French civil nuclear power.

In the first half of 2023, France confirmed its intention to give new impetus to its energy policy through the construction of six EPR2 reactors and the extension of the lifespan of existing power plants. To meet the challenges of these major projects, which are key to France’s energy transition and independence, M Group and ORTEC Group have decided to join forces and establish FERMI.

Equally owned by the two groups, FERMI will be based in Pierrelatte and will position itself as a leading player in mechanical assemblies to meet the needs of future EPR2 construction sites.

This combination of skills will enable MONTEIRO M Group and ORTEC to bring their expertise in nuclear project management, engineering and piping to bear on the EPR2 project. Both groups have proven their excellence on such major contracts as the Stress Corrosion Cracking discovered on plants in 2021, the ITER fusion reactor project located in Cadarache, the construction of Diesel d’Ultime Secours (emergency backup diesel) as well as construction and modification works on sensitive lines improving the safety and operation of nuclear power plants in France (EAS-ND and EAS-u).

Talent recruitment, professional training, and major investments already underway in production infrastructure and innovative processes will support the development of the new company.

Our history calls us to move forward with an industrial program of unprecedented scope, the construction of EPR2s, which will be the key sources of nuclear energy in the future. That is why we have joined forces of our two French industrial groups to put them at EDF’s service” said Annabel Vigier, General Manager of M Group.

In creating the Fermi, we have combined M Group’s high-tech welding expertise with ORTEC’s know-how in engineering and management of major projects. We are determined to succeed together, to provide our client EDF with the best possible support in meeting the major challenges of France’s nuclear power program over the coming decades”, commented Julien Einaudi, Deputy Managing Director of ORTEC Group.
