TotalEnergies inaugurates the solar power plant in Moussoulens, Aude
Moussoulens, May 22, 2024 – TotalEnergies inaugurated the photovoltaic plant in Moussoulens (Aude).
The 4.4 MWp solar power plant located on a 9-hectare plot of land acquired by the Ortec Group, who carried out the preliminary decontamination, generates over 5.9 GWh of low-carbon electricity per year. This output is equivalent to the electricity consumption of 3,600 people, and prevents 132 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
The solar power plant is a good example of how former industrial wastelands can be rehabilitated and put to good use to generate sustainable energy for the department as well as economic spin-offs for the local area.
The Moussoulens solar plant is also a remarkable example of citizen participation. Thanks to a successful fundraising campaign, 63 investors have contributed a total of 550,000€. As a result, local residents have been able to participate in their region’s energy transition, while benefiting from direct economic returns.
“We are delighted to have collaborated with the Ortec Group on this meaningful project which restores value to land that has been marked by human activity. This kind of initiative reinforces our pragmatic approach to renewable energy. The future of electricity production is being built with industrial actors, local authorities and farmers” said Alexandre Morin, Development Director, TotalEnergies Renewables France.
“As an expert in the remediation of polluted sites and soils, the Ortec Group has made a long-term commitment alongside TotalEnergies to convert the Moussoulens site into a photovoltaic energy production zone. Giving a second life to former industrial sites is a powerful lever in the fight aagainst soil artificialization and climate change” added Ludovic ROMERO, Director of the Decontamination Department at the Ortec Group.
