TotalEnergies and the Ortec Group join forces to build a solar farm
Moussoulens, November 8, 2022 – TotalEnergies and the Ortec Group will draw on their respective expertise to develop a green energy production facility in the county of Moussoulens in the French department of Aude (11), thus rehabilitating a former industrial wasteland.
The photovoltaic project put forward by TotalEnergies was authorized for the site in February 2020. The Company approached Ortec, and in particular its subsidiary Ortec Soléo, to acquire the site with a view to carrying out its preliminary decontamination.
This work will be carried out in two stages, the first of which will take place at the end of 2022. Construction work will begin when this stage is finished, in February 2023. The solar facility is expected to start generating its first kilowatt-hours on the network at the end of 2023. With a capacity of 4.5 MWp, the plant will produce 6.1 GWh per year, which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of 4,000 people, excluding heating.
“This project demonstrates that a contaminated industrial wasteland can be repurposed to produce green electricity and thus participate in the energy transition of territories. Our collaboration with the Ortec Group has made it possible to have the land restored to standard and made suitable for construction,” stated Thierry Muller, CEO of TotalEnergies Renouvelables France. “We believe that this first experience with the Ortec Group is just the beginning of a virtuous and fruitful collaboration.”
“In a context of the fight against soil artificialization and the preservation of resources, the teams at Ortec Soléo have developed a high level of expertise in the treatment of contaminated soils. With the support of our R&D center and our specialist teams in France and abroad, we are invested over the long-term alongside TotalEnergies, for the depollution of the site at Moussoulens and its conversion into an area for photovoltaic energy production. This kind of project is exciting and demonstrates our commitment to developing real environmental solutions. It represents a new phase in the Group’s plan for the development of offers towards services that are increasingly environmentally friendly. As a result, the partnership with TotalEnergies presents some great perspectives for the future,” stated Julien Einaudi, Executive Vice-President Global Services for the Ortec Group.
