Ortec Environnement Lyon expands its range of industrial cleaning solutions with the introduction of a new sustainable technique: cryogenics. Just as effective as high-pressure cleaning, this method can be adapted to meet clients’ specific needs. Cryogenics is also at the forefront in terms of preserving natural resources, as it does not use water.

Although dry ice blasting is already used within the Ortec Group, the use of this little-known technique is new for the Ortec Environnement Lyon branch. This initiative was driven by a specific cleaning request in the context of a ten-year inspection, where traditional high-pressure cleaning (HPC) techniques proved unsuitable.

“After a rigorous testing period, we are now in the operational phase” says Axel Bret Dit Buisson, head of Ortec Environnement Lyon. The agency’s employees have undergone both theoretical and practical training, allowing them to master the equipment and procedures associated with this technique, while complying with safety procedures.

Cryogenics can be used to clean installations without the need for water or high pressure. These are decisive factors for certain manufacturers when it comes to maintaining their facilities. The process involves the use of dry ice cooled to -80°C, blown by compressed air at a rate of 11 ml/minute. The ice impacts the contaminated surface, causing the contaminants to break apart. This versatile method can be applied to a variety of surfaces, including carpets, industrial installations, asphalt, etc.

Reducing the environmental impact of industrial activities

The advantage of cryogenics is that it generates no additional waste other than the material removed. Moreover, it does not consume water, making it an eco-friendly option. The dry ice used is produced from renewable CO2.

The Ortec Group is thus in line with the objectives of its O’Climat plan, and is helping its industrial and local authority customers to make the ecological transition by deploying a range of customized, high-performance, environmentally-friendly solutions.
